This lecture will introduce the audience to some fundamental elements of Alfred Hitchcock's cinema: suspense, the controlling gaze, and the idea of "pure film." Questions of authorship in art and cinema will be addressed. Clips from films such as Rear Window, The Birds, and Strangers on a Train will be shown and collectively discussed.
